I love the way Taylor writes. Her voice is mesmerizing, her style is singularly strong and lyrical though it never loses its wicked, sardonic edge. I was swept away by this tale of monsters and angels and humans, the worlds they inhabit and what happens when the pull of love becomes irresistible. There were several twists I never saw coming. It's very well-done.The plotting is solid and engaging, the characters sympathetic and complex. The world-building is believable. One finds it easy to forgive little things like a character losing her keys and phone then having keys and phone again in the next scene. The ending does leave a reader standing on a cliff, but it's not the worst kind of cliffhanger by any means. This first part of the story is very satisfying by itself but leaves one ready for the next book.
