Looking for Alaska
Well-written, taut and intense. I expect intense from Green and I like his style. I didn't know much about this book and was surprised and dismayed by the body blow in the center, but found that the balance of the book was even stronger than the lead-in. The way the kids at the boarding school circle one another, coalesce and then move forward is done well. I had a few minor quibbles, Lara's accent included, but this one haunted me enough that last night I dreamed of Alaska.
