What a strange trip this book was. It rings like a bell somehow. There's some mystery not uncolored with horror, and some fabulous characterization. The plot arc is clean and relatively taut. On the other hand, there are some holes big enough to drive a postal van through. It's a book that communicates directly with the dark places in one's subconscious, one that has layers of meaning that have little to do with extraneous plot details. Disturbing and haunting. I'm glad I read it, but I'm not sure about the repercussions of its reverberations.
