Well, Susan's read JRRT & I've read JKR. Neither of us were converted, perhaps to no one's surprise. It was an express train of a series, things happened very fast. So fast I hardly had time to notice the sloppy editing. I found the villains were more complex than the heroes and the backstories somewhat contrived. The ending was predictably tidy, and the epilogue smarmy. I just couldn't warm up to the characters very much, though I tried. I'm an inveterate weeper whilst reading and this series left me dry-eyed. My biggest complaint, I think, was that I never felt that I was in the hands of a master.
