Riveting account of the Victorian cholera epidemic and the armchair science that helped unravel both the locus of the disease and the means of transmission. The last chapter, in which Johnson extrapolates some things about cities and epidemics, was especially fascinating and not a little alarming. Very well-written. Highly recommended.
